Celebrating Year One: Supervision Skills Masterclasses Bring Cohorts Together

Retail Careers, Apprenticeship in Retail Supervision

Last week, as we wrapped up the first year of the Apprenticeship in Retail Supervision Programme, we were delighted to bring all three cohorts together for their final module before the summer break — the two‑day Supervision Skills Masterclasses. It was a fantastic way to close out the year, with apprentices engaging in two days of learning, collaboration, and vibrant networking. The energy in the room was incredible, and the sense of achievement across the cohorts was clear.

The Masterclasses provided practical, real‑world supervision and communication skills, forming an essential part of the academic journey for our apprentices. Over the two days, participants immersed themselves in discussions, group activities, and reflective exercises that strengthened both their confidence and their capability as emerging supervisors.

We were joined by three exceptional keynote speakers who each delivered a focused and engaging workshop:

Coaching & Supervision with Ger Naughton, who explored what effective coaching looks like and introduced apprentices to the GROW model as a practical tool for workplace development.

Managing Challenging Behaviours with Tony O’Brien, who unpacked conflict management theories and shared de‑escalation strategies to help apprentices navigate difficult situations with professionalism.

Emotional Intelligence & Resilience with Dr. Mary Collins, who guided apprentices through self‑awareness, empathy, and resilience techniques that support both personal wellbeing and effective leadership.

Each workshop concluded with time for apprentices to complete their self‑reflection and workplace tasks using their module booklets. These reflections are a key part of helping them transfer their learning into their day‑to‑day roles, and we will be encouraging them to apply these skills throughout the summer months.

The event was not only educational but also a celebration of progress and community. The two days were filled with meaningful conversations, peer learning, and the kind of networking that strengthens confidence and builds lasting connections across the programme.

We are already looking forward to welcoming all three cohorts back together in September as they continue their apprenticeship journey into Year 2.

Registrations are now open for the 2026 intake of the Apprenticeship in Retail Supervision Programme, a Level 6 programme designed to develop the next generation of retail leaders.
