Employers Information: Apprenticeship in Retail Supervision
The Apprenticeship in Retail Supervision programme is delivered using a blended delivery approach combining the workplace, classroom, online, and independent learning.
- Workplace Learning – as this is an apprenticeship, the workplace will always be the main place where learning occurs. Workplace learning includes activities such as the completion of workplace tasks, testing learning ideas in workplace, module masterclasses, setting goals, sharing ideas, discussing assessments, and much more.
- Classroom and Online – apprentices attend classroom and online delivery 24 days per year – 14 days are delivered in the classroom and 10 days are delivered online from 10am-5pm each day.
- Independent Learning – apprentices are required to complete 4-hours of independent learning each week. This time allows for additional reading, writing assessments, and research.
Block Delivery – The programme is delivered one module at a time between September and June (typically 2-3 days per month 10am-5pm). For example, in September the Retail Customer Experience module is delivered over three days – 2 days in the classroom and 1 day online. In October, the Retail Communications Module will be delivered over three days in October and so on.
Workplace Tasks – Each module has a list of workplace tasks associated which have been devised by retailers, tutors, and work-based learning experts. The workplace tasks form part of the on-the-job training. The purpose of the workplace tasks is to give the Apprentice the opportunity to practically apply knowledge acquired in the classroom in the workplace. The workplace tasks consider a range of retail scenarios with the aim of developing skills, competencies, and confidence. With the support of the Workplace Mentor, five tasks per module must be competently completed by the Apprentice.
